Today, there are many beauty and health brands on the market. New ones appear every month. It’s easy to forget that trusted, long-standing brands have been around for many years. Weleda is one such brand. It has been creating organic, natural herbal medicine and bodycare products for more than ninety-five year. Weleda is the No. 1 global producer of natural skincare and healthcare products. You can find it in more than fifty shops.
Weleda’s headquarters in Derbyshire and their bio-dynamic gardens were my lucky escape. This was for Weleda Insight Day. I learned more about the brand, their ethos, and how they grow their medicinal plants. Weleda is an exceptional brand that works in harmony with the environment and is always sustainable and ethical.
Weleda products are a must-try. Weleda is the original natural cosmetics brand. They are experts in their field, with well-loved and reliable products. Continue reading to find out more about the brand, their products, and the gardens they have created in Derbyshire. I was there recently.
Weleda’s philosophy and beginnings
Rudolph Steiner (Austria), a Dutch doctor, and a German chemist, founded Weleda in 1921. It all began with a pharmaceutical lab that used medicinal plants grown in its own backyard.
Rudolph Steiner believed the body could heal itself naturally by using natural gifts, and this is the foundation of Weleda’s philosophy.
The company’s foundation is also based on anthroposophy, which literally means “the wisdom of man”. Anthroposophy, a spiritual worldview with European roots, is now well-established all over the globe.
Anthroposophy is “the study of a person’s awareness of their inner world and how it interacts with the natural and social world.” This is achieved through bio-dynamic farming and fair treatment of employees and stakeholders. It also leads to sustainable manufacturing processes, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, and sustainable manufacturing.
Certification and the ingredients
Weleda products are 100% natural and carry the NATRUE seal. This seal is a sign that products are genuine natural and have been produced to the highest standards.
NATRUE products contain only organic and natural ingredients. They are not tested on animals, and they do not contain synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, mineral oils, microplastics, or synthetic fragrances. These products cannot use any preservatives that are not naturally occurring or manufactured from natural sources.
Weleda employs teams of scientists who carefully process the ingredients. “Using their expertise and insights into nature’s wisdom, they ensure that the pureest plant essence is extracted and activated to its full potential.”
Each active ingredient that their healthcare professionals use in the formulations are there for a reason. They do so to provide some health benefit (the ingredients are not used to make trendy marketing claims or as cheap fillers).
Weleda’s Head office and gardens in Derbyshire (UK)
Let me tell you about my trip to Weleda’s Head Office and Gardens in Derbyshire, UK.
This was my first time visiting Weleda’s headquarters in June of this year. I wasn’t sure what I was going to find. I was invited to Weleda Insight Day with other green beauty bloggers to learn more about the brand, their #CleanerBeauty campaign, and to visit their biodynamic gardens to see how their medicinal plants grow.
Cleaner beauty campaign
Jayn Sterland, managing director of Jayn Beauty, presented one of the highlights of the day. She highlighted the problems with traditional skincare products and explained why using “cleaner” beauty products is better.
People used to not use as many beauty products in the past. Today, we have so many that our bathrooms are stuffed with them. Are we really going to use them all?
Today, one in four babies suffer from eczema. The rates are also higher in the UK than other countries. Skin problems and allergies are also on the rise. Are these linked to the use of products that contain artificial ingredients? Are you aware of the ingredients in body and skincare products? Are you familiar with the ingredients on the labels? Have you ever looked them up online?
A normal consumer would be influenced by the presentation of how things have changed over time.
These things are often overlooked and people just go about their day.
Beauty products that you purchase from regular shops can contain synthetic ingredients that could irritate your skin. Some of these chemicals are also harmful to the environment. Certain ingredients can also raise ethical concerns.
You might be surprised at how many chemicals you’re putting on your skin by using a lot of conventional beauty products that contain potentially dangerous ingredients. Your skin absorbs a lot of these chemicals and you may not realize it. It is better for your skin, and your health, to switch to natural products that are cleaner. Weleda believes that cleaner beauty goes beyond using natural products. They also take a holistic approach to sustainability and ethics.
It is worth taking the time to think about all of it. What is most important to you? Your health? Your children’s health? It is never too late for you to use natural beauty products. However, it is important to educate yourself about the ingredients in conventional beauty products. To analyze these ingredients, you can use an app like Skin Ninja.
Weleda’s gardens in Derbyshire
The second highlight of the day was a visit to Weleda’s gardens. Or maybe it was the first! ).
The tour of the 13-acre biodynamic gardens was a great experience. Claire Hattersley, the head gardener, is a truly special person.
Weleda’s medicinal plants are grown here. They can then be used to make homoeopathic remedies as well as other medicinal products.
Weleda’s gardens are rich in biodiversity and have lively meadows. Claire Hattersley, a bio-dynamic planter, works with Claire Hattersley to ensure that the plants are grown in harmony with the earth’s rhythms.
It is fascinating to see how everything is linked to the forces and nature. Therefore, all garden activities must be done on specific days or at certain times depending on the lunar phases. To speed up the germination process, seeds should be sow just before the Full Moon.
If you get the chance to visit Weleda’s gardens, it is highly recommended. Open days are held every year. They also organize various events that allow you to experience the gardens and learn more about gardening and nature. Weleda Insight Day is next year for bloggers!
Take a bow
Weleda is a brand that should not be overlooked. You can’t go wrong with any of their products. Weleda is a trusted brand that has a long history and is unique in the field of natural health and well being.
Visit their Ilkeston headquarters if you get the chance. This is the location of their new Wellbeing store. It is the only UK store where you can find all 120 of Weleda’s natural and organic cosmetics as well as the entire range of 50 herbal and homeopathic remedies. You can also buy Weleda products online at places like Amazon and Holland & Barrett.
It’s never too late if you are still using conventional beauty products. It’s worth trying Weleda products. You won’t be disappointed, I assure you.
